Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026 — Plain-language summary for students, parents, and teachers.
1. Who we are
SciMath is a Canadian educational platform for K-12 students in British Columbia. We are committed to protecting the privacy of all students, especially those under 13, in accordance with the federal Privacy Act (PIPEDA) and BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
2. What we collect
We collect your email address, a display name you choose, your grade level, and your learning activity on the platform (quiz answers, XP earned, missions completed). We do not collect your real full name, address, phone number, or any other personal information.
3. How we use it
Your data is used only to personalise your learning experience — showing your missions, tracking your progress, and generating your XP and star scores. We never sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose unrelated to your education.
4. Who can see your information
Only you and your teacher can see your progress. Your display name (not your real name or email) may appear on the class leaderboard if you choose to opt in — this is off by default. Other students cannot see your quiz answers or personal details.
5. Students under 13
If you are under 13, a parent or guardian must give permission before you create an account. We ask for this consent during registration. Parents can request that their child's account and all associated data be deleted at any time by emailing privacy@scimath.io.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access your personal information, correct it, or ask us to delete it. To make a request, email privacy@scimath.io. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Data security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. We use Supabase, a Canadian-compliant cloud database provider. Passwords are never stored — we use secure token-based authentication.
